The researcher of Department of Diaspora

Studies Alex George Kalayji left for Istanbul

and studied the Armenian community of Istanbul.

This project was organized by the “Hrant Dink

Foundation” and Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of NAS RA.

In 2016, the book entitled "Ethno-sociology Yesterday and Today" 

was published at the Institute of

Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian

Academy of Sciences in Moscow, edited by

L. Ostapenko and I. Subbotina. The articles written

by 5 colleagues of the Department of Diaspora Studies were published in this book.

On June 17, the researcher of Department 

of Diaspora Studies Sona Nersisyan

participated in the International Conference

entitled "Armenians in America". The "Society for Armenian

Studies” (SAS) in conjunction with the “Middle East Studies

Association” annual conference had organized this conference.

During the conference, Sona Nersisyan made a speech on

"Homeland Perception and Identity Construction: The Case

of Los Angeles Armenian Community".

In 2016, the article of researcher of Department

of Diaspora Studies Suzanna Barseghyan

was published in the "VEM" scientific journal.

The title of article was “The Role of Armenian

Press in the Diaspora: The Comparative

Analysis of 2005-2010 Publications of

“Asparez” (in Los-Angeles), “Alik” (in Tehran)

and “Noev Kovcheg” (in Moscow) Periodicals. 

On August 1-15, within the framework of “The Armenians

in their Own and Foreign Environments: Comparative

Ethno-Sociological Studies” project, five researchers of

Department of Diaspora Studies left for Paris to study

the local Armenian community. Our colleagues carried 

out research studies based on sociological methods.

It is intended to summarize the results, development

and scientific analysis.

On  June16, Yuri V.Harutyunyan’s book was published

at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of

the National Academy of Sciences in Yerevan.

The title of book was “Armenians of Russia.

Ethno-sociological research”. Mr. Harutyunyan is

ethno-sociologist, doctor of Historical Sciences, corresponding

member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign member of 

the National Academy of Sciences of NAS RA, chief consultant

of Department of Diaspora Studies.

On June26, the renowned scientist

Yuri V. Harutyunyan passed away (1929-2016).

Mr. Harutyunyan was the Head of ethno-sociological

group, which operates at the Center for Interethnic

Relations of Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of RAS, as well as

doctor of historical sciences, professor, adviser in Russian Academy

of Sciences, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences,

foreign member of National Academy of Sciences of NAS RA,

member of Viennese Social Science Research and Documentation Center.
